9001 - OSHA 10-Hour General Industry

Course Description

This training program is intended to provide general industry workers information about their rights, employer responsibilities, and how to file a complaint as well as how to identify, abate, avoid, and prevent job-related hazards. The training covers a variety of general industry safety and health hazards that a worker may encounter at a general industry work site. Training should emphasize hazard identification, avoidance, control, and prevention.

Course Outline

1) Introduction to OSHA; 2) Walking and Working Surfaces, including fall protection; 3) Exit Routes, Emergency Action Plans, Fire Prevention Plans, and Fire Protection; 4) Electrical; 5) Personal Protective Equipment; 6) Hazard Communication; and Elective that comprises two hours of training that cover at least two of the following topics: Hazardous Materials; Permit-Required Confined Spaces; Lockout/Tagout; Machine Guarding; Welding, Cutting, and Brazing; Introduction to Industrial Hygiene; Bloodborne Pathogens; Ergonomics; Fall Protection; Safety and Health Programs; Powered Industrial Vehicles; and / or Materials Handling.

Learner Outcomes

The primary learning outcome of the OSHA 10-Hour General Industry training is to provide entry-level workers with a foundational orientation in recognizing, avoiding, abating, and preventing common workplace safety and health hazards. Upon finishing the course, participants should be able to: 1) Identify OSHA's Role: Explain the function of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), how standards work, and employer responsibilities. 2) Understand Worker Rights: Know employee rights under OSHA, including whistleblower protections and how to file a safety complaint. 3) Recognize Physical Hazards: Identify and mitigate risks associated with walking/working surfaces, fall protection, electrical systems, and machine operations. 4) Respond to Emergencies: Understand exit routes, fire protection, and basic emergency action plans. 5) Handle Chemical and Health Risks: Interpret Safety Data Sheets (SDS) via Hazard Communication (HazCom) and understand personal protective equipment (PPE) selection.
